Thinking spring …

deco for spring

Oh boy! I’ve been indulging my impatience for the change of season. Of course I’m totally ignoring articles about spring and summer trends – styles, colors, and so on. I’m more concerned with what colors I can wear with my ‘new’ white hair ,and how to reinvent my favorites (maxi dresses and tunics) for some different looks!

I must say that BMV patterns and Fabric Mart have been very collaborative. I’m beginning to feel like Chris at Fabric Mart is my BFF. So – a few thoughts.

Flutter sleeves and a floaty skirt, in light and drapey rayon challis.

Enough to keep me busy and out of trouble for at least a couple months! Meanwhile (I’m waiting for patterns to arrive), I made a little housedress in silky soft rayon knit, using the Cali Faye Gardenia Dress. Emile gets to wear it while the skirt and sleeves ‘drop’ before hemming. Spring green!

Spring Gown

I love the curved bodice on this pattern. Small details make such a difference.

I had just enough leftover fabric to cut out a pair of my favorite Love Notions Sabrina Slims. Probably PJs, because I can’t imagine what I’d wear with green leggings, but kicky for a trip to the mail box 🙂

Ciao! Coco

  1. What a list of lovely fabrics. I had my eye on the dragon print a week ago and had it on my “Maybe Later” list but is “fell off” my list and I’ve never been able to find it again. Lucky you.

  2. I have just found your blog for the first time and wanted to contact you to say how much I love the things you have made. I really admire your style and the new hair colour is a triumph. My sister made the same change about 12 months ago. (Beautiful white hair runs in our family but I don’t have it) She finds that blues really suit her skin colour.
I feel inspired to try some of your makes especially the Trio Top from Sewing Workshop. I am not so tall as you and live in the UK in a very different climate so will have to see how it turns out for me.
    Thank you for sharing

    1. What a lovely compliment, Rosemary, thank you so much. And I’m so glad you found me! Blog friends are special.

White hair and colors – I agree, blue goes well. I particularly find myself reaching for navy, a color I’ve never worn in the past!

Hope your Trio goes well and works for some of those (rare) warm days. I used to be in London and Brighton a lot on business, so I know it can be chilly!

  4. So much fun to be had with your future sewing. I love it when Fabric Mart is so collaborative (hubby not so much!). And Chris can be so accommodating. Speaking of …did you get that black with white birds from FM. How did I miss that? LOVE IT. Why is the spring green dress dubbed a house dress? Way to nice to be kept inside. Have fun!

    1. Aren’t the birds fun, swooping across the fabric. Yes, from Fabric Mart back in January. It was in their pre-cut buyout sale (but I never saw this one on Craftsy, which had many of the same offers). I hope they both do this again!

  5. I’ve been ordering fabric like a crazy woman lately! And being retired, I don’t need that many clothes…….oh well. Another Fabric mart purchase should here next week! Sheesh!!!

  6. Some great print choices – and nice vintage patterns. Looking forward to seeing them sewn up. So jealous – you have so much time to sew. I am lucky to find time every few weeks – so you can imagine my projects take forever. Happy sewing : )

    1. Thank you, Linda! I admit I love being retired. I had no idea how much fun it would be – time, no pressure, doing whatever suits me. It’s totally worth waiting and working for 🙂
