Moving house…

Day 1 and 2 collage

I’m finally committed – I’m moving to Orlando to be close to family and friends. I’m so excited and, frankly, relieved to move forward with a change I’ve contemplated for years.

Yesterday morning, Khalid (my handyman, friend and helper) and I did a walkthrough, got organized. He had great recommendations and approaches, and he started right away in the front porch area. He doesn’t mess around! Removing the palms that lined the walkway took hours, chains, and X-men tools. I took refuge in the loft…

All the hardscape, porches, and garage have  been pressured cleaned, ready for a new finish. Meanwhile I have a porch carpet hanging in Ms. Guava, and my back garden has a new look with the porch plants and pots.

Porch furniture has been cleaned and is living in my music room for now.

The garage…it’s ready for a new finish and ceiling repairs (pre-roof replacement leaks did a stain number on part of it).

My house is a little weird with temporarily displaced items.

Just the beginning, but Khalid is a great motivator! I’m determined to take my meds and chill out for the long haul 🙂 Coco

  1. Oh my! Saw all your “getting ready to move” pics. It’s a big step, but try to focus on the goal and just take baby steps. We downsized three years ago, moved ourselves (my 49th!) and it was SUCH a good decision!!

Best wishes for a speedy sale and easy move! Myra Sobral

  2. Congratulations! That’s an exciting (and huge) decision… but it sounds as if you are really ready for it. How nice it will be to be closer to your family. Stay strong! 💕💕💕

  3. Moving takes a lot of prep but you’ll make it. Minute by minute. Hour by hour day by day! Yes, moving near loved ones is the best. I always enjoy your blog. You’re s fabulous sewist! Rest too, take your meds, and let everyone help! My hubby and I downsized last year ourselves and boy, can you sure can purge the goods! Best of luck!

  5. We moved back to Orlando about 5 years ago to be near kids and grandkids. Moving is stressful! But every time I see my 2 year-old grandson run down the hallway, my heart absolutely bursts with joy! So, persevere, keep getting your awesome help, and take your meds. It’ll be good. 😄

  6. Moving: exciting and exhausting! A great opportunity to reorganize your sewing/craft materials. No matter how much you think you weeded out belongings, there is always more. Moving near your children is a smart move. Much happiness to you.

  7. Oh my, is there anything more stressful than moving? No, don’t answer that, I’m sure we could come up with any number of things…but… It does sound like a good move for all. But such a chore. Sounds like you have some good help to get it all done. And there’s nothing like a fresh new start. Cheers to you.

  8. I’m in the same boat. Moving ACROSS TOWN. Downsizing from a 3,000 sf house to 1,571 sf senior community home/duplex. There’s so much to a major move and I’m stressed. So if you have meds, they will come in handy. Wishing you the best.
